I Hate Critics

Today was kind of boring. I had the apartment to myself. Went ahead and just watched tons of basketball. Our cable provider is giving us a free weekend of the NBA League Pass. That means that I got to watch classic games for a majority of the afternoon.

Went to see Smokin' Aces today. It was pretty good. I've seen bad reviews for it, but I have to disagree. Each character was given just enough to make them unique. The plot was laid out in the beginning, and then everything was just constantly moving forward. If you miss 4 minutes of that movie, you miss too much.

All of the actors and actresses did well. I was particularly impressed with Ryan Reynolds. Every movie that I've seen him in, it's always a comedy. And his humor is basically the same in each of those movies. Well, he really put it together for this movie. Very serious character, and he did a good job.

Movie critics are useless. They pick their favorite movies, and if something new doesn't crack their top 10 list, they crap all over it. Maybe the director uses a new technique. Doesn't matter. A critic hates it and the whole movie stinks.

The best way to rate a movie is to ask yourself 3 questions:

1. Do I want to see this opening night?
2. Do I want to wait for the DVD?
3. Do I want to see this movie?

If you answer any of those questions with a 'yes,' then you watch the movie. Let's say you see it a theater. Then you ask yourself, "Do I want to buy this DVD?" If you rent it or borrow it from a friend, then you ask yourself the same question. "Is this movie worth owning?" If you see it on HBO, Cinemax, or Showtime, then you ask again.

If you see it opening night, or close to it, and you want to own the movie, it was a good movie. Simple enough. For me, I saw Smokin' Aces on the second night it was out, and I want the special edition DVD that's going to be out in a few months. It was that good.

I'm tired of critics in general. Movie critics, music critics, they all suck.
