I'm not the most die-hard basketball fan. There is plenty that I do not know about the history of the game. But I did know the legend of Red Auerbach.
I'm not an emotional person, nor do I have any reason to be. But certain things give me a spark inside.
When Emmitt Smith broke the rushing record, I felt the importance of what I was watching.
When Emmitt retired, I knew I was watching the end of a man's career.
When the Texas Longhorns won the national championship, I knew that I was not only a witness, I was a student at the time. I knew it was something big.
I heard the news late at night. I didn't believe it at first, but I knew that it was near his time. He had been ill for most of 2005. And they didn't think he would make it to 2006.
He dominated with the Boston Celtics. Whether he was coaching some of the game's best talent, or assembling one the game's best teams, he won.
The championships. The roles he filled. That's success.
